just another one of those days

so like I reaqlly wanted to write something profound, but i'm just gonna bitch a bit. I'm sick of people complaining about smokers. ok, yeah, it's a bad habit, but treating them like flippin lepers isn't the best thing to do either. Recently the Cleveland Clinic has decided that in order to better promote thier "healthy habits" campaign, they will no longer hire smokers (Plain Dealer, August 2, 2007). Does anybody else but me see a problem here? it's just like that stupid new law Ohio has that bans people from smoking in ANY public place. Ok, Yeah banning from resturants is a good idea cause some people are really bothered by smoking (these are also the same people who clean the entire house with bleach just to get rid of germs, not realizing that they are also getting rid of the healthy germs that protect you against disease. ugh), but let's be real here- banning smoking from establishments such as bars and truck stops and coffee shops is just plain ridiculous. Even the most avid non-smoker might pick up a butt if they've had enough to drink. Taking smoking away from bars is like taking the butter out of peanut butter. it's just not kosher. I don't know how true this is but apparantly in California you can get fined if you are caught smoking on your front porch. you can be fined for smoking on yiur own private property because you are polluting the air. Guess what? I can pollute the air too and I don't need a cigarette to do it. The whole tax thing is outrageous too. Charging $490 for a pack of smokes isn't gonna make people quit and it's not gonna stop people from starting either. People...I have no more words
